Background

As a result of the Deanery Mission and Pastoral Plan produced in 2006/2007 both Synod and Standing Committee have thought to establish ways by which good practise within the parishes of the Deanery may be shared more widely. Some of the areas defined, just to bring them into focus again, were work with children, music/worship, work with the elderly, church finance, school governing, and parenting courses to name but a few. After these initial soundings from Synod as to the sort of mission and pastoral areas where sharing may take place, we have tentatively begun to try and set up informal networks. In so doing, we are aware of the danger of developing a top down approach in taking initiatives that are not required at grass roots level.

Currently, we are seeking to set up two networks, for those leading childrens work in the parishes and for members of our churches who are governors or prospective governors, whether with CoE schools or others.

Objectives

It would be helpful for us to know something of the key issues which such a group may address and where discussion and sharing would be useful. This is particularly true with new governors in mind. We would appreciate it if you could find some time to respond briefly to outline these issues from your point of view, letting us have your ideas by the end of the month. Input is welcome from anybody with an experience in school governing, or anybody facing the challenge of becoming one for the first time.

Also, we would be particularly grateful for a reasonably experienced governor in the Deanery to act as a facilitator for this informal network. If you feel that this is something you could do, please contact us shortly.
