For many farmers in rural Africa, harvest can be a time of meagre or non-existent crops and fear for what the future may hold. Thousands of families across eastern Africa urgently need help. All Saints’ Church New Haw decided to run a Harvest Appeal this year for the charity “Give Poverty the Boot” and raised £1,238.20.
Here are the activities that help them raise the money:
• giving out envelopes with 2 x £1 coins in them and asking members of the congregation to see how much they could raise by using the money
• running a sponsored night walk on youth club night for the 8s to 12s (many wearing their wellies)
• letting the 13+ group throw wet sponges at their leaders and at invited members of the congregation in the church garden on a Sunday morning
• getting the Parent & Toddler group to decorate wellington boots to be planted out with pansies and then sold
• and adding the generous Harvest Sunday collection to the combined efforts.
